INDIANAPOLIS- The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) today introduced Katie Feltman as its new chief executive officer (CEO), effective February 2025. Feltman has served ACSM as chief operating officer since 2020 and was appointed interim CEO last January.
“Katie is uniquely qualified to be ACSM’s chief executive officer and fulfills all the requirements of this vital role,” said ACSM President Stella L. Volpe, PhD, RDN, ACSM-CEP, FACSM. “She has developed a deep understanding of the organization and its culture and has demonstrated knowledge and leadership in every facet of ACSM’s operations. Katie has earned the trust and respect of our Board of Trustees, members and staff, and we are excited to have her as our CEO.”
Feltman joined ACSM in 2012 as director of publishing. She was promoted to chief content officer in 2017 and then to chief operating officer in 2020. As interim CEO, Feltman has oversight of ACSM’s 40 staff members and responsibility to ensure business continuity and stability while the board conducted its searches for a permanent CEO. She has been leading ACSM’s core operations and managing all governance, crisis management and communications, and succession planning tasks while closely collaborating with the Board of Trustees.
As chief executive officer, Feltman will head the largest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world.
“It is extremely humbling to be entrusted with leading this great organization,” said Feltman. “Personally and professionally, I am wholly committed to ACSM’s vision and mission and have developed a deep appreciation and respect for our members, certified professionals and staff over the last 12 years. As CEO, it will be a privilege to serve all of our stakeholders as we continue to advance exercise science and sports medicine.”
A Certified Association Executive, Feltman has extensive leadership and management experience. As chief operating officer, she managed a $12 million budget and led organizational change and growth initiatives in information technology, scientific publishing, member programs, customer service, certification/credentialing programs, grant administration, science initiatives, and other association programs. She was also integral to the development of the ACSM 2024-27 strategic plan.
“We are grateful to Katie for her longtime commitment to our organization,” continued Volpe. “We look forward to supporting her as she leads us into ACSM’s bright future.”
