Dear ACSM members, certified professionals, partners, friends, and supporters,
As we reflect on 2023 and wish ACSM a happy 70th birthday in 2024, it is a great honor and privilege to share with you just a few of ACSM’s collective accomplishments from the past year. None of these achievements would have been possible without the unwavering commitment, leadership and tireless efforts of ACSM’s Board of Trustees, hundreds of volunteer leaders and the exceptional staff team. Focused on supporting ACSM’s members, certifieds and all those we serve, these groups have worked tirelessly to advance ACSM's bold, new mission: to educate and empower professionals in advancing the science and practice of health and human performance.
In 2023, ACSM accomplished the following:
- Developed a new three-year strategic plan, approved by the ACSM Board of Trustees in June 2023, which includes a revised mission and vision along with organizational values. This plan serves as ACSM’s true north, ensuring that we all move forward cohesively toward our common goals.
- Implemented ACSM’s comprehensive rebrand, culminating in the launch during the 2024 Annual Meeting.
- Continued implementation of ACSM’s five-year technology roadmap, including initiation of ACSM’s most significant technology upgrade in the organization’s history. We started the implementation and configuration phases of ACSM’s new Association Management System (AMS), which will come online in early 2025 and position ACSM to serve all stakeholders well into the future.
- Completed and published five official statements from ACSM, including two pronouncements, one roundtable publication and two papers from the Team Physician Consensus Conference.
- Achieved several significant advocacy milestones, including issuing a formal letter of support for a National Coverage Determination (NCD) for exercise oncology, and ACSM leadership on advocacy for the NCD, and collaborations with the Coalition for the Registration of Exercise Professionals (CREP) and the Physical Activity Alliance (PAA), enabling the US Registry of Exercise Professionals (USREPS) to be designated as the primary clearinghouse for qualified practitioners in the National Healthcare Directory Exchange.
- Enhanced member engagement and awareness through the implementation, creation and distribution of new advocacy and clinician newsletters, ongoing growth of member engagement through the ACSM Member Hub and a focus on the work of ACSM’s chief medical officer.
- Maintained and renewed key partnerships including Elevance Health and Technogym.
- Solidified partnership with IDEA Health and Fitness Association leading to a successful 2024 ACSM and IDEA Summit event.
- Continued to release high quality online education for all of ACSM’s stakeholders.
- Developed a balanced budget for 2024 that ensures fiscal sustainability for the organization.
Our collective efforts are intended to resonate across the diverse domains our members represent - from the laboratory bench to the hospital bedside, from the sports courtside to the community gym or parkside. I encourage each of you to review the 2023 annual report and delve deeper into how ACSM’s distinguished past informs and drives our promising future.
